Program Requirements
Clinical Scholars Program Requirements – To be Completed Prior to Graduation
In addition to the traditional PharmD program requirements, the Clinical Scholars student will participate in these activities:
- Receive advanced training in drug information — one month practice experience with required activities including (a) formally present a new medication or DUE results to a group (multidisciplinary group preferred), (b) prepare at least two formal, written, and referenced responses to drug information questions or one suitable for publication, (c) present at least two journal club articles to a group
- Receive one-on-one direct mentoring for professional growth and project oversight. Mentors are not necessarily AHEC faculty but can be project mentors or other clinical staff interested in the professional growth of the Clinical Scholars student.
- Conduct a research project. IRB review of projects may be required by some Clinical Scholars Programs and their affiliated institutions. IRB review, however, is not a CSP requirement. All Clinical Scholar students are required to attend one IRB meeting.
- Present a poster at the NCAP Spring Meeting. Clinical Scholars students are highly encouraged to submit their work as a poster or platform presentation at other state or national meetings and/or submit an article for publication in a state or national journal.
- Present a research project in a formal setting similar to the Athens format (10-12 minute PowerPoint presentation) during the spring semester. Each AHEC will provide instruction on designing a research project and presenting a research project.
