Brochures for Individual Fellowships

The School of Pharmacy, in cooperation with PPD, United Therapeutics, King Pharmaceuticals, and GlaxoSmithKline, sponsors two-year fellowships in clinical research and drug development. Ideal candidates will have obtained a PharmD, PhD, or MD. Residency training is preferred but not required.

The fellowship seeks to provide:

  • Orientation to all aspects of the drug development process (e.g., preclinical and clinical development)
  • Experience in developing, reviewing, and composing protocols, study reports, and regulatory submissions
  • Exposure to the selection, set-up, and monitoring of clinical sites participating in Phase I/ II/III and/or pharmacokinetic studies


Each fellow will develop expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Proposal development
  • Regulatory affairs
  • Clinical site monitoring
  • Data analysis including PK and PD studies in healthy subjects, patient populations, or relevant in vitro/pre-clinical models
  • Drug assay methodologies
  • Biostatistical analysis


Each fellow will participate in clinical research projects with faculty at the School and with members of GlaxoSmithKline, PPD, United Therapeutics, and King Pharmaceuticals. The fellow will design, initiate, conduct and analyze research project(s) as part of the learning experience.

Fellows may participate in selected course work in:

  • Clinical research methods
  • Clinical study design
  • Biostatistics
  • Advanced pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics
  • Genomics
  • Data management
  • Advanced therapeutics
  • Drug metabolism
  • Molecular biology


Application

The fellowships start July 1. A competitive stipend, health insurance, and travel to one scientific meeting per year will be offered. Interested individuals should submit the following by January 1:

  • A letter describing their personal goals as related to the fellowship
  • A curriculum vitae
  • Three professional letters of references
