UNC-Chapel Hill and Elizabeth City State University

For additional information about the UNC-ECSU PharmD Partnership Program, send inquiries to pharmacy_admissions@unc.edu

Launched in fall 2005, the UNC/ECSU Doctor of Pharmacy Partnership Program enrolls ten to fifteen students per year at Elizabeth City State University. The goal of this partnership is to increase the number of pharmacists and pharmacy faculty practicing in North Carolina with a particular focus on reaching underserved populations, especially those in the northeastern part of the state.

Admission and curriculum requirements are the same for students on the Chapel Hill and Elizabeth City campuses. Pioneering students in the ECSU-based program enroll in the doctor of pharmacy program at UNC-Chapel Hill and will remain on the ECSU campus for the first three years of instruction in the PharmD program, with the exception of orientation and special events.

Students are taught through live video-teleconferencing and recorded video, through Web-based instruction, and by ECSU-based faculty. Students complete the practice experience component of the program through a network of nine Area Health Education Centers, as do students based from the Chapel Hill campus. Students have a variety of opportunities to work with faculty and advisers on both campuses.

Upon completing all degree requirements, students graduate with a doctor of pharmacy from UNC-Chapel Hill with acknowledgment of the partnership with ECSU.

Students who would like to be considered for admission to the program on the ECSU campus should complete a PharmCAS application for the UNC program and note their campus preference on the required form in the School of Pharmacy supplemental application materials.
