The Division of Medicinal Chemistry and Natural Products will present a
seminar by Richard Houghton, PhD, the founder and president of
Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies, on April 3.
The Institute was founded in 1988 with a staff of eight. It has become
an internationally recognized organization for its scientific contributions
in a wide range of fields, including chemistry, multiple sclerosis,
diabetes, immunology, infectious disease, heart disease, cancer
vaccines and pain management.
Houghton has received numerous recognitions for his scientific
contributions, which include the “tea bag” approach, a method that
has been used in synthesizing millions of peptides and low-molecular
weight compounds.
