Fellowships

Pharmacokinetic/ Pharmacodynamic Fellowships

The School of Pharmacy, in cooperation with GlaxoSmithKline and Quintiles, Inc., offers two-year fellowships in clinical pharmacokinetics/dynamics and drug development. Ideal candidates will have obtained a PhD, PharmD, or MD. Advanced training or experience in pharmacokinetics is preferred.

The fellowships seek to provide:

  • Knowledge and experience in clinical pharmacokinetic study design and related clinical drug research methodology
  • Experience in pharmacokinetic/dynamic data analysis
  • Expertise in the proper conduct of clinical drug trials
  • Exposure to ethical, legal and regulatory issues in research involving investigational and marketed drugs

The fellow will participate in clinical pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic, transport and/or metabolism studies with faculty at the School of Pharmacy and with members of the clinical pharmacokinetics group at GlaxoSmithKline or Quintiles, Inc.

Each fellow is expected to design and initiate an individual research project. Expertise will be developed in one or more of the following areas:

  • Design and implementation of drug absorption, drug disposition, pharmacodynamic and drug interaction studies in animals, healthy human volunteers or diseased patient populations
  • Laboratory methods to evaluate clinical drug disposition problems
  • Computer pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic modeling
  • Statistical analysis
  • Application of pharmacokinetic/dynamic principles to patient therapy

The fellow may also participate in selected coursework in clinical research methods, biostatistics, data management, analytical methods, advanced therapeutics, drug metabolism, molecular biology, and/or advanced pharmacokinetics.

Fellowships begin July 1. A competitive stipend, health insurance and travel to one meeting per year will be offered. Interested individuals should submit a letter describing their personal goals as they relate to the fellowship, a curriculum vitae, and three professional references by January 1 to:
