Qualyst Inc. – a company founded on breakthrough research by School of Pharmacy professors Kim Brouwer, PharmD; Gary Pollack, PhD; and Dhiren Thakker, PhD –has experienced extensive growth since initiating business operations in 2003. Qualyst counts multiple major pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies as its customers, including AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, Gilead, Millennium, and Intermune.

Qualyst's focus is commercializing novel and proprietary ADMET (absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity) technologies for drug discovery and development, predominantly through non-exclusive out-licensing and fee-for-service offerings. Qualyst recently signed an alliance with Covance Laboratories, Inc., under which Covance will also be able to provide services to the pharmaceutical marketplace using one of Qualyst's exclusive technologies, B-CLEAR®, an assay for hepatobiliary drug transport. Qualyst also plans to expand its operations to include manufacturing of B-CLEAR® kits to provide customers an additional mechanism to access this patented system. The new manufacturing function will be initiated in 2007, and require growth in both personnel and office/laboratory space.
