Basic Setup

First, e-mail David Etchison or John Zhu and tell them you want a lab site. They will get the site set up, give you access to edit the content, and send you the link to the site.

Follow the link to the site, and click on log-in at the top right. Your log-in name is likely your first initial and your last name, all one word and lowercase. You can use your log-in name to retrieve your password through the log-in page, and it will be automatically e-mailed to you.

After logging in, you’ll see a screen similar to this:

There are two basic templates for a lab site, each with three color variations, so you have six choices. Let’s change to the second template. To make that change:

  • Click on “edit” in the second row of buttons at the top.
  • On the page that appears, you can change the title of the page and write a lab description. This is in essence the home page to your site. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and there’re lists of themes and variations. Select Theme 2, Variation 1.
  • Click “save” at the bottom of the page.

Now the site looks like this:

Now let’s add a photo in the banner of the site. This photo will appear on every page of the site. Notice that the second template is much more horizontal than the first. That impacts the orientation of the photo as well. If you’re using the first template, the photo size should be 155 pixels wide by 220 pixels tall. If you’re using the second template, the photo should be 520 pixels wide and as shallow as possible (shouldn’t go much more than 200 pixels tall).

  • Click on “edit” in the second row of buttons at the top.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page. Just above the “save” button is a field called “Labimage”.
  • Click Browse and select the photo you want from your computer.
  • Click “save” at the bottom of the page, and when the lab homepage reloads, the photo should be there.
