Keeping an Item Out of the Navigation Menu

ADDING SECTIONS: KEEPING AN ITEM OUT OF THE NAVIGATION MENU

In the root directory, create a folder called “Images”. This is where we will store any images we use on this site. It’s a good practice to keep everything organized using folders. However, adding an “Images” folder also adds a link to the folder in the left navigation menu, and we don’t really want people going into this folder since they will just see a bunch of images without any caption to explain what they are. To keep an item out of the navigation menu:

  • Go to the folder by clicking on its link in the left navigation menu.
  • Click “Properties” in the second row of buttons.
  • Check the box that says “Exclude from navigation”, then scroll to the bottom of the page and hit “save”.
  • When you return to the View mode, you’ll notice that the link to the “Images” folder is no longer in the navigation. However, if you go back to the home page and click “Contents”, you’ll see that the “Images” folder is still there and is accessible.

NOTE: If you are using template 1 for your site, you will notice that the folder link is still visible as a tab at the top even though it’s not in the left navigation menu. Unfortunately this is a bug in the system, and it’s on the list of things to fix.
