David S. Moody Jr. received the Distinguished Service Award from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Pharmacy Alumni Association August 23 in Chapel Hill.
Moody is executive vice president and chief executive officer of Mutual Wholesale Drug Company. He earned a bachelor of science in pharmacy from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1973.
"Dave Moody is an alumnus who makes me proud to be a part of this school," said Bob Blouin, dean of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. "His contributions to both the business and the practice of pharmacy at the local and national levels are truly outstanding."
Moody serves on the board of directors of the Association of Community Pharmacists, Community Care Rx, Healthcare Distribution Management Association, Pharmacy First, and Pharmacy Providers of the Southeast, LLC. He also serves on advisory boards for Berlex Laboratories, the Campbell University School of Pharmacy Curriculum Committee, and the Medical University of South Carolina, among others. He serves as a preceptor for the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and the Campbell University School of Pharmacy.
Mutual Drug was formed in 1952 to provide competitive prices on merchandise and services critical to independent pharmacies. There are more than 425 independent pharmacies operating in Virginia, South Carolina, and North Carolina that are members of Mutual Drug, with over 1,000 pharmacists offering a wide range of services for their customers.
The PAA Distinguished Service Award is given to an alumnus or alumna of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy whose accomplishments and contributions have enhanced the School of Pharmacy and the profession of pharmacy at the local, state, national, or international level.

The PAA Distinguished Service Award is given to an alumnus or alumna whose accomplishments and contributions have enhanced the School of Pharmacy and the profession of pharmacy at the local, state, national, or international level. Professional and extraprofessional activities may be considered. The recipient must be a graduate of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, but he or she does not have to live in North Carolina. At least two letters of recommendation should be submitted for each nominee. Those sending letters do not have to be members of the Pharmacy Alumni Association nor do they need to be pharmacists.
