Each year we welcome alumni back to Kerr and Beard halls for a barbecue lunch and then head over to Kenan Stadium for some Carolina football! This year the Tar Heels and new coach Butch Davis will be taking on South Carolina. Look for a brochure to arrive in the mail soon. Joseph W. Pike III ('68 BSPhar) and Catherine J. Chitty ('82 BSPhar) received their associate degrees in criminal justice from Craven Community College in May 2007. They both currently serve on the District 3-B Close Watch Drug Treatment Court and are members of the National Association of Drug Court Professionals. They are both still active as community pharmacists in Craven and Lenoir counties.
Richard H. Rains ('70 BSPhar) was named to the Local Advisory Board of The Heritage Bank in Bailey in June. Rains owns Bailey Pharmacy.

S. Jason Couch ('96 BSPhar, '97 PharmD) and his wife, Sherri Couch, announce the birth of their son, Joshua Samuel Couch, born March 14, 2007.
Mary Williams Roederer ('00 PharmD) and her husband, Charlie Roederer ('99 BSBA), announce the birth of their son, Charles Albert Heuser Roederer IV, born June 23, 2007.
Kathleen Jardina Kirkland ('05 PharmD) and her husband, Frank Kirkland, announce the birth of a daughter, Hannah Grace Kirkland, born March 23, 2007.
Carolina M. Lowe ('06 PharmD) is now a medical information specialist in neurosciences at GlaxoSmithKline in Research Triangle Park.
Clifton Stone, of Carrboro, June 25, 2007. He worked as the stockroom manager in the UNC School of Pharmacy for forty-three years. He was hired by Dean Ed Brecht in 1954 and retired under Bill Campbell's tenure in 1997. Memorial contributions to the Clifton Stone Fund in the UNC School of Pharmacy can be sent to the Pharmacy Foundation of North Carolina, 194 Finley Golf Course Road, Suite 106, Chapel Hill, NC 27517.
Russell Mumper, PhD, an internationally recognized leader in the pharmaceutical applications of nanotechnology, has joined the UNC School of Pharmacy as the John A. McNeill Distinguished Professor.
Craig Lee, PhD, an assistant professor at the UNC School of Pharmacy, has received a $132,000 beginning grant-in-aid from the American Heart Association.
Mary Paine, PhD, has been awarded a $300,000 grant from the National Institutes of Health to explore interactions between foods and drugs.
