Prerequisite Course Evaluation: Non-degree Students

I have taken or will take at least one course at an institution other than UNC Chapel Hill in the United States or Canada, and I will not have a baccalaureate degree before I begin my PharmD studies.  How do I evaluate my prerequisites?

Step 1

Go to http://pharmacy.unc.edu/admissions/pharmd/prerequisites/courses and print out the list of our PharmD prerequisite courses.

Step 2

Print out an unofficial transcript or transcripts from your school(s) website(s).

Step 3

Go to https://www.unc.edu/sis/adm/xfereq.html and find the transfer equivalency page for your school.

Step 4

Write down the UNC Chapel Hill equivalent courses next to your courses on your printout from Step 2 in a new column.

Step 5

Check http://www.pharmacy.unc.edu/admissions/pharmd/faq#prerequisite if there are some courses you did not find on the transfer equivalency page that you think may fulfill some prerequisites. There is a link there for AP, IB, and CLEP score standards at UNC Chapel Hill there as well. Continue to fill in your column from Step 4 if you learn that one or more of your courses will fulfill a PharmD prerequisite.

If there are some courses not listed on the transfer equivalency site from Step 3, and they are not for prerequisites discussed on our Frequently Asked Questions page, then the courses you want to transfer will need to be exactly equivalent to the courses listed in our prerequisites. We recommend you contact the UNC Chapel Hill Office of Undergraduate Admissions and ask to speak to a transfer course evaluator. The contact information for the university Office of Undergraduate Admissions is listed at http://www.admissions.unc.edu/ . The best approach to take with them is to just ask them if your course is equivalent to the course we have listed as a prerequisite. If you ask them if it fulfills a PharmD prerequisite, they will tell you to contact us.

Step 6

Go to http://pharmacy.unc.edu/admissions/pharmd/how-to-apply/new-general-education-requirements-comparison-chart.pdf. This chart shows what general education requirements are fulfilled by UNC Chapel Hill courses. Write down the general education requirements that your non math and science courses fulfill in a new column on your printout from Step 2.

Step 7

Go back to the list of PharmD prerequisite courses you printed in Step 1, and cross out the courses and perspectives you have already fulfilled. The courses and perspectives that are left are the ones you need to take in order to finish your prerequisites.
